The Calgary Flood of 2013

On June 20, 2013 a “State of Local Emergency” was declared in the City of Calgary due to the threat of significant flooding.  A one word description of the week that followed would simply be “unprecedented”.  The downtown business community was effectively shut down – roads, bridges, schools and many public services closed.  Over 100,000 residents were served with a mandatory evacuation notice and inner city came to a standstill.

Throughout this natural disaster, many companies faced an additional challenge due to the energy industry cheque exchange occurring when the evacuation order was still in effect.  Due to the fact that many companies could not physically get to their corporate offices, they were forced to initiate their Disaster Recovery Plans.

“We were evacuated from our building during the flood and there was a key industry deadline – cheque exchange.  Our Egistix support team was in constant contact with us, problem solving and ensuring that we made it to the deadline with zero impact to any of our customers.”
